Singer AMERIE is set to undergo a career overhaul - after signing a deal with the record label which turned RIHANNA into an international superstar.

The 1 Thing hitmaker has parted ways with Columbia Records and inked a deal with Def Jam, the company that secured the massive track Umbrella for Rihanna last year (07), catapulting her to global fame.

And Amerie, who has previously released two albums to moderate success, is hoping the new contract with Def Jam will help boost her career to even greater heights.

A source tells Britain's Daily Star newspaper, "Amerie's first two albums did well, but she's ready to step it up a gear now.

"She was offered a deal too good to turn down and the promise to build upon her reputation for classy and sexy R+B."AMERIE Rogers was born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts to an African father and a Korean mother. Her father was in the United States military, so Amerie traveled to and lived in many different places, including Alaska, Texas, Germany, and South Korea. She has a younger sister, Angela Rogers, who is now her lawyer. She finally settled in Washington, D.C., which she considers her hometown. In 1996 she started studying at Georgetown University for a degree in English and Fine Arts and graduated in 2000[1].

Amerie's first language is Korean. However, after the family left Korea, Amerie's mother made a conscious effort to limit the use of Korean with her daughters out of fear that it would impede their development of English proficiency. In an interview with KoreAm Journal, Amerie stated that she is now only "conversational" in the Korean language and speaks it at home with her mother, Angela, and extended Korean family members.^[2] Amerie also bears a tattoo featuring her given name in Korean script on her lower back, which can be seen in the music video for "1 Thing". The tattoo does not directly translate to Amerie, but "Emeuri" (에므리) while the Korean media pronounces her name "Eimeori" (에이머리) however. Amerie is noted for signing her name in both English and Korean when giving autographs.

In my make-up bag there is... plenty of mascara. I’ve tried them all. Maybelline Great Lash is nice, but the best is Lancôme Hypnôse, £18.50, because it’s so thick and makes my eyelashes so long. Two coats and it’s almost like I’m wearing false lashes.

I couldn’t live without... NARS Blusher in Taj Mahal (£18.50). It’s just the best blusher ever – my sister put me onto it. In the pot it’s a rich Indian orange, but once it’s on it just gives my face a really nice glow.

My worst beauty crime was...when I was in high school. I got this idea that I’d look really beautiful with a beauty spot so I had this pimple and I picked it and picked it until it scarred. Actually, no one else can see it, but I can. How stupid was I?

I keep my skin looking best with... lots of sleep, and pure, food-grade, sweet almond oil. A lot of people seem to think it’s bad to use oil on your face, but it’s great for you. If I have any kind of irritation, it just calms it down. (Try Quinessence Almond Oil, £3.30.)

The perfume I love right now is... Hugo Deep Red, £34. It’s very sexy with a deep sensual smell – definitely a night-time scent. I like scents to be quite woody and earthy, I don’t like smelling like a bouquet.

I think botox is... probably not for me. I really believe in organic eating and, while I don’t think there’s anything wrong with other people doing it, the idea of putting a chemical into my face puts me off.

Amerie Dropped?

Sexy R&B songstress amerie have been dropped from Columbia Records, according to industry rumors. This might be a great thing for A, because her last two albums was kind of wack, and she didn’t get good promotions. Her first album, All I Have, is a classic, I love that disc. Anyway, word through the grapevine is she might sign with Def Jam.
